Jacquard Loom

Jacquard Loom is a special kind of machine used to make fabrics with pretty and complicated designs. This loom was invented in 1804 by Joseph Marie Jacquard. It uses punched cards to control how the threads are woven together. Each card is like a piece of a puzzle, telling the loom how to move the threads to make the design. Each row of the design finds its counterpart on a punched card. These cards play a crucial role, with holes meticulously punched to represent specific actions for the loom.

3. Card Reading:

Once the punched cards are ready, they are carefully loaded into the Jacquard loom. In operation, the loom systematically reads the cards row by row, laying the foundation for the weaving process.

4. Thread Selection:

The presence or absence of holes in a specific column of the card becomes pivotal. This determines the movement of the warp threads, both raising and lowering them during the shuttle’s passage.

5. Shedding:

The manipulated warp threads create a temporary opening known as a shed. Through this shed, the horizontal weft thread is deftly inserted by the shuttle, moving back and forth in a synchronized dance.

6. Pattern Formation:

The magic unfolds as the loom adheres to the punched card instructions, selectively raising and lowering different warp threads. This meticulous process results in the intricate patterns and designs seamlessly woven into the fabric.

7. Repetition of Pattern:

With each row of the design, the loom advances the punched cards and orchestrates the adjustment of warp threads accordingly. This repetition ensures the consistent execution of the intended pattern.
